Rare Disease Day, a globally coordinated initiative to raise awareness and promote equity for individuals living with rare diseases will take place on February 28, 2025. Observed annually on the last day of February, this movement highlights the challenges and needs of those affected by these unique conditions.
Rare diseases, defined as conditions affecting fewer than 1 in 2,000 people, include over 7,000 disorders, often with genetic origins and diverse symptoms. Misdiagnoses are common due to overlapping symptoms. Despite the urgent need, treatments remain scarce, with only a small fraction of rare diseases having their approved medications.
